Measure 6.4: Support for investments in creation and development of non-agricultural activities
MedSNAIL aims to address the common issues and challenges in the agro-food sector, such as: gradual loss of local varieties, rural poverty, lack of business planning, and marketing strategies. The project intends to tackle these issues by fostering the valorisation and development of small-scale traditional agro-food value chains, combining enhancement of market potentialities and socio-environmental sustainability. Project activities will build on the well-established experience, principles and methods of SlowFood, an international grassroots organization promoting traditional food…
AquaCycle aims to address the present situation of water scarcity in the southern Mediterranean region, with a mission to change the present model of wastewater reuse, and of imposing an eco-innovative technology (including anaerobic digestion, constructed wetland, solar treatment). This technology has a low cost of operation and maintenance as it uses less chemicals, runs on renewable energy, produces biogas and fertiliser, and the constructed wetland will thrive as an ecological tourist attraction, aside from being a climate-change mitigation measure.…
ZEROCO2 focuses on the energy performances of buildings; in this regard, it intends to design innovative policies promoting near zero CO2 emission buildings. This project shall also combine different technologies and energy efficiency sources, contributing towards the EU energy efficiency targets. …
Malta is a semi-arid country located in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. The scarcity of water has always been an issue since documented history and meeting the demand for both municipal water supply as well as the needs of the agricultural and commercial sectors has always provided an important challenge. However, this challenge has also provided Malta with an opportunity to diversify and further develop its water supply infrastructure. This can be highlighted by the introduction of sea-water desalination technology in the 1980’s, and the continued improvement of the operational…
The project addresses the challenges of safer marine transportation, the protection of human lives at sea, whilst safeguarding marine and coastal resources from irreversible damages.
In Mediterranean countries, domestic water use accounts for a minor part of water consumption, however, it requires the best quality and its demand is continuously growing. Moreover, urban water is still the main cause of pollution of rivers and groundwater, even when treated before being discharged. The project NAWAMED aims at changing the urban water management practice by mean of innovative, sustainable, and low-cost treatment technologies, applicable in a decentralised pattern, to replace the use of potable water with good quality NCW (non-conventional water) resources.…
EnerNETMob aims to draft, test and improve parallel “Sustainable Electromobility Plans” according to common standards and low carbon policies, in order to establish an “Interregional Electromobility Network” across a number of cities of the transnational MED area. To this end, the project shall promote land-sea intermodality using electric transport systems, whilst implementing inter-urban and interregional pilot networks of Electric Vehicles Supply Equipment (EVSE) also co-powered by Renewable Energy Sources.…
The project intends to contribute towards the smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of the cross border area making the most of the field-based new generation social enterprise environment such as innovative start-ups. To this end, the project aims at encouraging innovation in key areas such as digital health, food technology and sustainable tourism (experiential and seasonally adjusted), fostering the circular trans-border mobility of qualified young people and enabling the internationalization of innovative SMEs from both sides of cross-border territories. * *…
PROMETEUS will enable Transport Malta to learn from the experiences of the other partners involved in the project, as well as share its own experiences to continue introducing and integrating the concept of Electromobility into the Maltese Islands.
Malta will be benefitting from €8 Million in EEA and Norwegian Grants under the programming period 2014-2021, aimed towards urban development and poverty reduction.
