The EU Direct Funds Unit
The EU Direct Funds Unit within the Funds and Programmes Division (FPD) aims to ensure increased local participation and absorption of EU direct funds. EU direct funds refer to those funds that are centrally managed by the EU. For instance the Horizon Europe, Connecting Europe Facility and LIFE programmes are all examples of EU direct funds. In order to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are kept sufficiently informed, the EU Direct Funds Unit aims to promote and disseminate information on these programmes with the relevant market sector. Prospective applicants are guided towards the relevant funding opportunities and any additional support that may contribute towards enhancing the proposal’s chances of success is also provided.
An established network of National Contact Points (NCPs) acting as representatives for the different centralised funda is coordinated by this unit. NCPs are strategically located within suitable Government Ministries and entities and provide detailed information about their respective fund. An extensive list of direct funding options and their respective NCPs may be found here.
The EU Direct Funds unit is also the NCP for the following funds:
- The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF)
- The European Solidarity Fund (EUSF)
- The Innovation Fund
- The TAIEX and Twinning Programme
- The Emergency Support Instrument
Anyone looking for guidance on funding opportunities, especially EU centralised funds, is encouraged to contact the EU Direct Funds Unit at directfunds@gov.mt or +35622001108 and will be guided accordingly.
As explained above, NCPs should serve as the first point of contact to anyone seeking more detail about a particular EU direct fund.
One can find the full list of EU direct funds (2021 - 2027) and respective NCPs here: Contact details of National Contact Points for Direct management Funds
