SiMaSeed, which has a budgetary allocation of €895,033, involves the setting up of seed banks for the conservation of native plant species in Malta and Sicily. The project will focus on the identification of priority species for conservation in Natura 2000 sites, the collection of seeds for seed bank storage, the development of germination protocols for selected species, the mass propagation of these species using in vitro and conventional methods and the reintroduction of the propagated species in selected intervention sites. Two Maltese partners are participating in this project, namely the University of Malta and the Ministry of Gozo.
